PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ORANGE COUNTY JAIL REGARDING INCIDENT AT COURTHOUSE

100601 Media Update: Casey Anthony now back at the Orange County Jail following treatment at a local hospital

Casey Anthony has arrived back at the Orange County Corrections Department following treatment for injuries sustained when her shackles caught the edge of an elevator portal as she was exiting the elevator while being taken to court. Anthony arrived at the jail compound at 6:59 p.m. (EDT) where she is being held in protective custody at a Booking and Release Center medical housing area pending further on-site treatment. Her cell location is shown on the jail’s internet web site as BRC1ANA04. She is expected to eventually be returned to her cell at the Female Detention Center inside the jail complex.

Medical confidentiality laws prevent us from talking about specifics regarding her injuries other than to say they were relatively minor in nature. It will be up to Inmate Anthony’s attorney to release any details regarding the nature of her injuries.

The Orange County Corrections Department Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an informal inquiry into today’s incident. It is not a formal investigation, but an inquiry requested by the Chief of Corrections. It is possible the inquiry will conclude in the next few days.

Preliminary indications are that this was purely an accident. As additional information becomes available we will send out another update. No additional updates are expected before tomorrow afternoon; if then.

We will not be identifying which hospital, nor a timeline of events. Transportation of inmates and logistics surrounding transportation and movement of inmates falls under the highest level of security requirements, therefore, nothing can be released that would indicate a standard practice or protocol regarding these matters.
